Mulligan!
Dublin Core
Title
Mulligan!
Description
This photo taken from the southeastern corner, looking northwestern corner of Richmond Highway (US 1) and Mount Vernon Memorial Highway (on the north Old Mill Road).
Old Mill Road is being widened just here, to make room for the planned new Mulligan Road. This road is being constructed to help alleviate the large influx of men and women newly station at Fort Belvoir Army Facility.
Up until September 11th, civilian traffic could cut through the base. Now many in this area must take a circuitous route. Mulligan Road will be a major artery for Richmond Highway--useable by both civilians and members of the armed forces.
What is notable in this picture is the bright orange sign to the far left of the image. This was the former entrance to Woodlawn Estate and the Pope-Lehigh House. Widening of the street has closed this entrance, and the orange sign sends visitors west to the new entrance at Woodlawn Road, off of RIchmond Highway.
