The Cross County Trail runs through some of the county's most scenic areas, beginning at Great Falls National Park on the mighty Potomac River and extending south to the Occoquan River and Laurel Hill, formerly known as Lorton Prison.
Large stone (boulder) crossings provide an adequate crossing for most adults. They may not be suitable for young children, some pets, or older adults. There are 2 such crossings on the CCT across Difficult Run.
This image was taken last Fall. Before passing the gate and going to Great Fall park, you can drive slowly and see how nice when the leaves have different color.
This overlook is located to the left of the south end of the Visitor Center. It is the closest you can get to the Falls themselves. A short trail leads down to a dirt viewing platform. The rest of the overlook is rocky and will require some easy…
