Retail Redevelopment: Documenting Two Open Air Shopping Centers
Landmark Center opened in 1965 in Alexandria, Va, the first shopping center in the east to have three anchor stores. In 1972, Hunters Woods Village Center opened in Reston, VA, to serve the surrounding community. Both were open air shopping centers and were considered modern and innovative at the time. Both were redeveloped 25 years after opening.
This exhibit uses photos and print materials to document the original shopping centers, and it also explores what replaced them.
